WHO I WORK WITH

I work with adults, teens, couples, and families. While everyone comes in with something different, the work always circles back to the same thing: helping you feel more connected.

ADULTS (18+ years)

You’re noticing old patterns — in relationships, at work, in how you talk to yourself — and you're tired of repeating them. Some of these patterns might be rooted in your past painful experiences, and some might have developed from trying to survive this world. Usually both. This might show up as symptoms of emotional reactivity, anxiety, panic, depression, hopelessness or feeling unsure of who you really are.

I work with individual adults of all ages to heal from old wounds, let go of outdated narratives and to figure out what is within your control so that you can change it, if you want to.

COUPLES & CONJOINT THERAPY

It feels like you’re speaking two different languages—you’re both trying your best to communicate but somehow the message is never received. You have the same argument over and over but never seem to make any progress—or when you do, it doesn’t seem to stick. This might be rooted in past hurts or broken trust occurring in the relationship or maybe it happened in before the two of you met; but you can’t seem to shake to feeling that it might happen again.

We don’t come into relationships as blank slates—we come with stories, histories and sometimes scars, from all of our other relationships. In trauma-informed couples therapy, you get to build an understanding of where the past is showing back up for you and your partner, and practice tools for coming back into the present so you can connect to the relationship that is right in front of you.

Partnerships of all configurations welcome here.

TEENS (13-17 years)

Being a teenager right now is genuinely hard — and not because something is wrong with them. The pressure is heavy, the world is overwhelming, and the things demanding our attention are endless. But sometimes the most stressed kid in the room is the one paying the most attention.

I work with teens individually and via family therapy, helping them build skills to learn about themselves, what matters to them, and how to make decisions that are aligned with these values. While ultimately teens have agency in deciding if they want to involve their families or not, most teens who work with me choose to involve their parent(s)/caregiver(s) in treatment.

FAMILIES

Family therapy isn't about fixing any one person—It's about rebuilding the connection that makes it possible for everyone to talk about what's going on and to face it together.

Teen Family Therapy
For parents who see enough to know that things aren’t okay but can’t see a way forward. You’ve searched the internet, you’ve talked to other parents, you tried the tools everyone suggests but you still can’t get through to your kid.

For teens who are trying so hard to do what they’re ‘supposed’ to, but it doesn’t looks how adults (or you) want it to—the grades aren’t good enough, the chores aren’t done right, the things that make you happy aren’t seen as important. Sometimes it helps when an adult actually gets you, and can help your parents ‘get you’ too.

Adult Family Therapy - Our problems don’t end simply because we grow up (alas!). Family dynamics have an impact that can reach far beyond the home. If you notice you, your parent/s, siblings, cousins, getting pulled into old, familiar and painful patterns that feel unmovable, family therapy may be a good fit.

WHAT I HELP WITH

I help people heal from past difficult experiences that continue to show up in the present.

Our feelings, behaviors and nervous system responses are often life saving—but when we don’t have the tools, time, resources and/or capacity to process and recover from traumatic experiences, they continue to show up and impact our lives in ways that can feel outside of our control.

Trauma & PTSD

Trauma shows up in many ways—maybe you’re stuck in painful beliefs learned long ago, while logically knowing they aren’t true; or you catch yourself having a physical reaction that is disproportionate to the situation.

Big events and quiet, chronic wounds. Both are real. Both leave a mark. Both are treatable.

Self-worth & Identity

This can show up in many ways, but often it is the feeling of not quite knowing who you are (or who you are without your trauma).

Anxiety & Worry

The constant over thinking—worrying about the past and the future with trouble focusing on the present. It’s like you can be everywhere but right here.

Left unaddressed anxiety can lead to avoidance of things that are important and meaningful, which in turn only worsens the anxiety. We can stop that cycle.

Panic Attacks & Phobias

Whether it’s a specific fear or a sudden collapse, this is what happens when the body’s threat detection system goes into overdrive.

Depression

The world looks grey and feels heavy; you’re tired and unmotivated; and you can’t see anything outside of this. And yet somehow you still have to show up for work, your partner, your family.

A deep episode of depression can be experienced like a trauma, and result in a similar hypervigilance to going back there.

Grief & Loss

Loss is a normal part of life, and some grief doesn’t ever go away. But being able to process your grief in a safe space can help shift your relationship to it.

Relational Stress

Relationships give our lives meaning; and when they are strained they can bring up immense pain. We all deserve support to navigate this part of life.

Substance Use & Misuse

At it's core, substance use is a coping tool; but over-reliance can lead to more challenges and the sense that you can’t get through hard moments without it.

Burnout

The extreme fatigue, like you can’t go on. You can’t tell if it's your job, the list of responsibilities that never gets shorter, the world, or just you. (Hint: it’s not just you.)

HOW I HELP

I use approaches that allow us to connect with experiences beyond what we can verbally communicate, and to see all parts of ourselves within the larger context(s) that shaped them. Scroll below to learn more.
